After securing market presence with the core gaming demographic, we're now seeing Nintendo open up to more non-gaming apps on the Switch.
What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. Netflix's absence on the Nintendo Switch is strange for a lot of reasons, but one of the most confusing aspects is the fact that Netflix has been on Nintendo consoles in the past. In our view, these are not differentiators. Nintendo focused nearly its entire first year on just getting out really great gaming content for the Switch, including the undeniably fun Super Mario Odyssey, the GOTY winner that was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the health-conscious fighting game ARMS. We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon things that will come in time. The company explained that Nintendo launched the Switch with the intention of it being a gaming device first and foremost, and an entertainment hub second. Like many other game consoles, you can use the Nintendo Switch to stream TV and movies.
Some of you might remember that back during the spring of this year, specifically in May, Netflix issued a statement explaining why the app wasn't available on the Switch during launch. The Nintendo Switch is a video game console that’s portable for gameplay on the go, and also comes with a home dock to play games on a larger screen at home. This isn't even the first time that Netflix and Nintendo have crossed paths for the Switch.
